Organiser's Comments
Night orienteering is still alive and well; it was pleasing to see that the number of competitors was almost exactly the same as last year. Thank you for coming. This was SLOG's first ever event at level 3. We were pleased to combine the event with army championships and I thank the army and the EMIT team for the excellent facilities in the assembly field and for handling all electronic punching aspects. My thanks go to our host farmer, Paul King who in turn would like to thank you for your parking donations (?176) which were divided equally between the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Service and Swindon Hydrotherapy Pool. The updated West Woods map was provided courtesy of MOK.
My final thanks go to Ian Fleming for his courses , Charles Daniel as controller and members of SLOG who helped in any way.

Planner's Comments
Almost all of the feedback following the event was very favourable, so it would appear that most enjoyed their run. Winning times of less than 7 mins/km showed that the wood is still very fast in places. I tried to plan at least one long leg per course, two or three for the longer courses, which seemed to go down well.
The only significant planning issue was whether to have the Start close to Assembly, or walk competitors into the wood to take advantage of the better quality terrain away from the SE corner of the wood. In the end we opted to retain the Start close to Assembly which saved battery usage and, I think, added to the 'buzz' of the event 'centre'. On the downside, it did mean a path run between controls 1 and 2, plus a long-ish path-run into the Finish.
I would like to thank the Controller, Charles Daniel of BOK whose comments and observations definitely improved early drafts of the courses. The Organiser, Ken Stimson of SLOG ensured, as always, that the event proceeded without any hiccups whatsoever. I would also like to thank Charles and Ken plus Lewis Watson, Kevin Ryder, Phil Davies and Dave Roberts (all from SLOG) who helped to collect the controls.
